Today intercultural education has to deal with the paradox that we observe at a socio-political level: in front of an intensification of trade in goods, finance and knowledge, the parallel phenomenon of growth and strengthening of political and legal barriers to human migration occurs. All this produces within society attitudes of defensive closure and denigration of cultural difference, that need to be welcomed and taken up by educational reflection in order to overcome them. This task represents a minimum but urgent goal of intercultural education, to be explored in the light of the recent literature on ethnocentrism and of the effective educational means.
