Abstract

Educational sustainability and the Capability approach are the two “key-approaches” that are shaping new challenges in educational and training institutions, first and foremost the school, which involves the adults of the present (the teachers) and the adults of the future (the learners). Starting from an analysis of the theoretical framework supporting the theme of sustainability, the paper pays attention to the studies and theories that have “designed” a new model of Education for Sustainable Development (ESS) and then presents the first results of an empirical research conducted in some Roman schools to understand how the two approaches can generate the didactic-training conditions to develop the talents of tomorrow.
