Abstract

The article addresses the most recent articulations of transformative theory in the light of its implications for the critical-emancipative approaches that are emerging in the scenario of popular pedagogy. It will explore the impact of Freire's (1970) popular and emancipatory pedagogy on the origins of the transformative theory as formulated by Mezirow (2003) and on its current evolutions. Particular attention will be paid to transformative research methodologies that pursue emancipatory interests and that connect action, participation and transformation.
