Abstract
The article aims to investigate the meaning of Salvemini's work through a critical analysis of the concepts of culture and secularism, taken as interpretative criteria both of his specific educational theory and of his constant commitment in order to improve the school. Our attempt is to highlight the relevance of Salvemini’s lesson in a pedagogical perspective that can contribute to the debate on the current identity of the italian educational institution.
