Abstract

The centenary of the birth of Don Lorenzo Milani has relaunched in the public and academic debate the discussion on the relevance and legacy of the prior of Barbiana in the school-educational sphere. The present article intends to contribute to the reflection on this topic, drawing inspiration from the reading offered by Antonio Santoni Rugiu, a historian of education of the lay area, who passed away in 2011 and was known for his always unconventional and stimulating analyses. Especially in the last years of his long life as a scholar, he returned several times to write about Don Milani, by whom he had long been fascinated and intrigued.
