Barbiana school as ‘landing place’ of a long-standing paideia

Abstract

The contribution starts with a qualitative educational analysis of the experience of Barbiana school, to investigate how the full education of human person was the basis of Father Lorenzo Milani’s work, as result of a long-standing paideia’s “sedimentation”. That process was made possible by two reasons: firstly, Barbiana school was a sort of pedagogical “workshop” to experiment self-education and to promote the personal responsibility of each pupil; secondly, it was an exceptional school aimed at developing the several dimensions of the human person, thanks to the role of the teacher as a “magister”, according to the teaching model offered by Jesus Christ.
